We are excited to share that Gretna City Park is now open! Great day for the official ribbon cutting with the City of Gretna, Louisiana and collaborators CARBO Landscape Architecture, BATTURE, Synergy, and CM Combs Construction.
The Park is the first completed of six pilot projects from Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments Program (LASAFE), funded through the National Disaster Resilience Competition. The Park’s appearance and function is defined by water, and upgrades are designed to celebrate this important asset. The landscape design approach starts with stormwater and layers on improvements to access, passive recreational opportunities, and habitat & water quality.
“What you’re looking at today is a secret high-performance landscape,” said Andy Sternad of the architecture firm Waggonner & Ball , which was the lead master planner on the LA SAFE program. “This is one of the highest-performing stormwater landscapes in the city, if not the region, if not the state.” NOLA.com
