Thom Smith

Thom is a licensed architect and LEED Green Associate. He ‎is part of the firm’s urban design and resilience planning team, and has a decade of experience in a broad range of ‎architecture and environment projects throughout the United States with an emphasis on sustainability and resilience at multiple scales. Past projects include the successful National Disaster Resilience Competition proposals for the City of New Orleans and the City of Norfolk, Virginia. Prior to joining Waggonner & Ball, Thom worked as an architect and urban designer at Concordia and he served in AmeriCorps with Rebuilding Together New Orleans.

Thom is also an active member of the local design community. He currently serves on boards and committees for the Greater New Orleans Water Collaborative, Rebuilding Together New Orleans, the Preservation Resource Center, Audubon Charter School, and The Green Project, and was on the executive board of AIA New Orleans for two terms. He helped curate and produce “10 Years 10 Stories,” an exhibit on local architecture and design for the tenth anniversary of Hurricane ‎Katrina that won state and national AIA awards. Since 2015, Thom has taught undergraduate as well as graduate courses on innovative sustainable design at the Tulane ‎University School of Architecture.
